LIVINGSTON, NJ –The Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges, a leading non-profit organization serving Bergen, Essex, and Sussex counties, is excited to share a historic achievement in its 2025 “Legacy” Annual Support Campaign.
The Y has raised over $2.2 million to meet the largest campaign goal in its 140-year history, achieved in record time. This year’s campaign will fund the Y’s Financial Assistance program, ensuring that no one is turned away from the Y due to financial constraints. The Metro YMCA has seen a nearly 40 percent rise in aid requests so far this year. “Our community continues to show up in incredible ways,” said Richard K. Gorab, President and CEO of the Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges. “Thanks to our generous donors and partners, we are saying ‘yes’ to more families than ever before. We’re not just meeting needs—we’re building a legacy of opportunity that will make a lasting impact in our communities for years to come.”
The Annual Support Campaign ensures that cost is never a barrier to participating in Y programs such as child care, swim lessons, youth sports, summer camp, and health and wellness memberships. On average, one in four individuals receives financial assistance to supplement membership and program costs.
Through its Financial Assistance program, the Y is able to make a positive impact on the lives of many individuals. This year, funding will help support: A single mother who is balancing essential expenses and without nearby family support. For her, affordable childcare is out of reach—yet it’s critical for her to keep working and supporting her family. A student who is deeply focused on academic achievement, with a demanding school schedule that leaves little room to work and earn money to pay for swim lessons. With their family facing financial difficulties, support would make it possible to learn a vital life skill while staying committed to their education. A parent dealing with the rising cost of living, making it increasingly difficult to afford extracurricular activities, yet they are committed to providing their children with enriching experiences like sports and camp.
In our continued effort to make the Y accessible to all, the Metro YMCA has introduced FAcheck. This instant eligibility tool allows families to receive financial assistance for membership and programs without delay. The easy-to-complete application can be found on the Y’s website at metroymcas.org/fa.
